What is Vat Purnima Vrat?
Vat Purnima Vrat also known as Vrat Savitri is celebrated on 5th June in the year of 2020. Vat Purnima Vrat is highly celebrated in the parts of western India such as Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat along with some other parts of India. Vrat Savitri is observed on the day of Jyestha Purnima.
A Vrat or a fast is observed on Jyestha Amavasya in the parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat and South India. Women across India pray for long life and well being of their husbands on this day. A banyan tree is worshipped and a thread is tied where women seek blessings and pray for their husband.
On this day Vat Purnima Vrat Katha is sung in various languages such as Hindi, Marathi. Legend has it that in ancient texts a woman named Savitri saved her husband Satyavan from Yamraj. It is the reason why women celebrate this festival for their better halves.
